Garbage Dumping in Madipakkam Ram Nagar

This article concerns the environmental health hazard faced by the people of Ram Nagar (South) Madipakkam, Chennai - 91.This area is within 2 Kms from the current chennai city limits and has been planned to include it as part of the chennai city expansion. There is no proposal solid waste disposal management system in place in Madipakkam and the garbage from the entire area is dumped into residential plots forcing people to flee from the area fearing health hazards. The garbage consists of Bio-medical waste, construction material and non-decomposible substances which harm the soil and also pollute the air. In spite of repeated complaints and representations, the authorities havent attended to this. Today the risk of a health hazard for the people in the area is even high as the authorities have started disposing the garbage even in front of houses where people stay and the people are forced to walk on those to reach their homes.
