Garbage turns burning issue

Residents of Madipakkam Ram Nagar near Velachery in the city are a worried lot as 17 truckloads of garbage are being dum-ped and the waste burned everyday in the residential area by the Madipakkam pa-nchayat. Despite legal ba-ttles and several representations, the dumping continues and is reportedly causing respiratory and other health problems to the residents.

Every monsoon in the city, Ram Nagar is in the news with its residents using boats to reach their homes. Over 7,000 residents of this upper middle class locality closer to Velachery MRTS station are fighting a long and arduous battle with the local body with a litigation in Madras high court and more than 50 representations on the dumping and burning of waste by the local panchayat right next to their homes.

The small township has 13 streets and almost half the streets are used by the local panchayat to dump its wa-ste. “The panchayat has be-en dumping garbage on vac-ant plots right in front of our homes. While we are alre-ady facing health problems due to the Alandur municipality dumping waste closer to our township, this has added to our health issues,” said G. Arul Selvan, president, Ram Nagar south residents’ welfare association.

It is garbage everywhere in the area with the highly waterlogged locality allowing the waste to float and travel. “This area is becoming unlivable by the day,” said Mr Krishnamurthy, another resident. However, panchayat officials refused to comment.

மடிப்பாக்கத்தில் மழைநீர் கால்வாய் வசதி இல்லாததால் ஒவ்வொரு மழைக்கும் குடியிருப்பு பகுதிகளில், மழைநீர் தேங்கி மக்களுக்கு பாதிப்பை ஏற்படுத்தி வருகிறது.எனவே, மடிப்பாக்கம் பகுதிக்கு தனி கவனம் செலுத்தி மழைநீர் கால்வாய் வசதி ஏற்படுத்தி தர வேண்டும் என்ற கோரிக்கை வலுத்துள்ளது.சென்னையை அடுத்த மடிப்பாக்கம் கடந்த 15 ஆண்டுகளில் அசுர வளர்ச்சியடைந்துள்ளது. வேளச்சேரி மேம்பால ரயில் திட்டத்திற்கு பின் இப்பகுதியில் உள்ள நிலங்களில் மதிப்பு பல மடங்கு உயர்ந்தது. இருப்பினும் அங்கு அடிப்படை வசதி என்பது கேள்விக்குறியாகவே காணப்படுகிறது.மடிப்பாக்கத்தில் 70க்கும் மேற்பட்ட நகர்களும், 120க்கும் மேற்பட்ட தெருக்களும் உள்ளன. இங்கு 50 ஆயிரத்திற்கும் மேற்பட்டோர் வசித்து வருகின்றனர். இப்பகுதியில் அடுக்கு மாடி குடியிருப்புகள் அதிகம். ஒரு கிரவுண்டு (5.5 சென்ட்) இடத்தில் நான்கிலிருந்து எட்டு பிளாட்டுகள்வரை கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளன.குடியிருப்புகள் அதிகமிருந்தாலும் பாதாள சாக்கடை, மழைநீர் கால்வாய் என எந்த வசதியும் இதுவரை அமையவில்லை.இதனால், வீடுகளில் இருந்து வெளியேறும் கழிவுநீர் பல ஆண்டு காலமாக தெருக்களில் தான் சங்கமமாகிறது. சாலையில் தேங்கும் கழிவுநீர், நிலத்தடி நீருடன் பல ஆண்டுகளாக கலந்து வருகிறது. இதனால், நிலத்தடி நீரின் தன்மை, சுவை மாறியுள்ளது.மேலும், சுகாதார சீர்கேடு, கொசுத் தொல்லை போன்ற பல பிரச்னைகளில் இப்பகுதி மக்கள் சிக்கி தவித்து வருகின்றனர். மடிப்பாக்கம் பகுதி மக்களின் பல ஆண்டு கோரிக்கைகளில் ஒன்று தெருக்களில் கால்வாய் அமைப்பது.அமைச்சர், எம்.எல்.ஏ., சம்பந்தப்பட்ட துறை அதிகாரிகள் என பலரை தொடர்ந்து சந்தித்தும் பொதுமக்களின் கோரிக்கை இதுவரை நிறைவேறவில்லை. கடந்த ஐந்து ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் கால்வாய் அமைக்க திட்டமிப்பட்டு, அதற்கான ஆரம்ப கட்டப் பணிகள் துவக்கப்பட்டன.ஆனால், அத்திட்டமும் கிடப்பில் போடப்பட்டது. ஒவ்வொரு மழைக்காலத்திலும் குடியிருப்பு பகுதிகளில் தேங்கும் மழைநீரால் இப்பகுதி மக்கள் தவித்து வருகின்றனர்.சமீபத்தில் தொடர்ந்து பெய்து வரும் மழையால் மடிப்பாக்கம் ராம்நகர், சதாசிவம் நகர் உள்ளிட்ட பகுதிகளில் மழைநீர் தேங்கி செல்ல வழியில்லாமல் உள்ளது.இதனால், சுகாதார சீர்கேடும் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. மழைநீர் செல்ல ஒரு சில இடங்களில் சாலையை தோண்டியுள்ளனர். இதனால், போக்குவரத்தும் பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.எனவே, இப்பிரச்னைக்கு நிரந்தர தீர்வு காண மழைநீர் கால்வாய் வசதியை முழுமையாக ஏற்படுத்த வேண்டும் என்ற கோரிக்கை எழுந்துள்ளது.

குடியிருப்பு பகுதிகளுக்குள் வெள்ளம் - மழைநீருடன் சாக்கடை நீரும் கலந்தது

மடிப்பாக்கம் ராம்நகர், குபேர் நகர், சதாசிவம் நகர் போன்ற பகுதிகளில் கடந்த சில நாட்களாக பெய்த மழையால் குடியிருப்பு பகுதிகளுக்குள் வெள்ளம் புகுந்தது. மழைநீருடன் சாக்கடை நீரும் கலந்ததால் துர்நாற்றம் வீசுகிறது. வீடுகளின் தரைத்தளம் வரை கழிவுநீரும் மழைநீரும் நிரம்பியது. இதனால் பொதுமக்கள் வெளியில் வரமுடியாமல் அவதிப்பட்டனர். மழைநீரை வெளியேற்ற மடிப்பாக்கம் ஊராட்சி நிர்வாகத்தினர் எந்த நடவடிக்கையும் எடுக்கவில்லை. இதை கண்டித்து அப்பகுதியை சேர்ந்த மக்கள் நேற்று காலை மடிப்பாக்கம் பாலையா கார்டன் பிரதான சாலையில் திடீர் மறியலில் ஈடுபட்டனர். இதனால் அங்கு போக்குவரத்து பாதிக்கப்பட்டது. தகவல் அறிந்து மடிப்பாக்கம் போலீஸ் உதவி கமிஷனர் தங்கரத்தினம், கவுன்சிலர் அரிகிருஷ்ணன் ஆகியோர் சம்பவ இடத்துக்கு வந்தனர். ‘மழை நீரை வெளியேற்ற உடனடியாக நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கிறோம் என்று உறுதியளித்தனர். அதன்பின் மறியல் கைவிடப்பட்டது.

சென்னை மடிப்பாக்கம் வளர்ந்து வரும் பகுதிகளில் சென்னையை ஒட்டியுள்ள பகுதிகளில் மடிப்பாக்கமும் ஒன்று. தற்போது ஊராட்சியாக இருக்கும் இந்த பகுதி குடிசை பகுதிகளை விட மாடி வீடுகளே அதிகம். விரைவில் வளர்ச்சி அடையும் பகுதி என்று நினைத்து இடம் வாங்கிக் கொண்டு வந்தவர்கள் இப்போது ஏன் வந்தோம்??? என்ற அளவிற்கு எந்தவித அடிப்படை வசதியும் இல்லாமல் அவதிப்படுகிறார்கள் என்பது உண்மையான வேதனை.

குறிப்பாக ராம் நகர் வடக்கு தெற்கு பகுதியில் வசிக்கும் பொதுமக்களுக்கு சாலை வசதி, குடிநீர் வசதி எதுவும் கிடையாது .சாலைகள் அனைத்தும் மண் சாலைகளாக காட்சி அளிக்கின்றன. மழை பெய்தால் நடக்கவே முடியாத அளவிற்கு சாலைகள் உள்ளன.

ரேஷன் கடை, தபால் நிலையம் என அனைத்தும் 2 கி மீ தூரத்திற்கு அப்பால் உள்ளது. இதுவரை மடிப்பக்காத்தில் அரசு ஆரம்ப பள்ளிகள் கிடையாது. தனியார் பள்ளிகள் நன்றாக சம்பாதிக்கிறார்கள். மடிப்பாக்கம் ஊராட்சி நிர்வாகம் மோசமாக இருப்பதாக பொதுமக்கள் குறை கூறுகிறார்கள்.

இப்பகுதியில் சேகரிக்கப்படும் குப்பைகளை அரசு சோழிங்கநல்லூரில் ஒதுக்கியுள்ள இடத்தில் கொட்டாமல் ராம் நகர் தெற்கு குடியிருப்பு பகுதிகளில் கொட்டி தினமும் அதை எரிக்கின்றனர்.

இதனால் ராம் நகர் 9 ஆவது முதன்மை சாலையில் குடி இருக்கும் பொதுமக்கள் வீட்டையே காலி செய்துவிட்டு வேறு இடங்களுக்கு சென்று விட்டனர்.

பொதுமக்களின் சுகாதாரம் கேள்விக்குறியாகி மாசுக் கட்டுப்பாட்டு வாரியம் இருக்கின்றதா என்ற கேள்வி உருவாகி உள்ளது...

HC directs pollution board to give report on waste burning around Ram Nagar South

The Madras High Court has asked the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) to file a report on the illegal dumping and burning of garbage and other toxic materials around residential areas near Pallikaranai marshland.

A vacation bench comprising justice P Jyothimani and justice T S Sivagnanam gave the interim direction to the TNPCB on Tuesday, on a public interest writ petition filed by the Ram Nagar South Residents' Welfare Association.

The petition, filed by the association secretary S Narayanan, accused the Madipakkam town panchayat authorities of illegally dumping solid wastes and toxic materials in private open lands near 9th, 10th and 11th main roads in Ram Nagar South. The garbage consists primarily of plastics, metal, glass, construction debris, biomedical waste and slaughterhouse waste, he said, adding that these chemicals could damage environment and community health severely.

Ram Nagar residents allege unsafe disposal of garbage

Dumping and burning of garbage at Ram Nagar in Madipakkam cause inconvenience to residents.

The Ramnagar South (East) Residents Welfare Association, Madipakkam, has alleged that village panchayat staff indulge in an indiscriminate dumping and burning of garbage in their area.

In a memorandum submitted to District Revenue Officer and Collector-in-charge A. Nambirasan here recently, the association office-bearers said that village panchayat staff dumped non-biodegradable waste such as plastics, use-and-throw products and domestic/commercial waste on vacant plots in the Ramnagar South area regularly despite opposition from the residents.

They also set fire to garbage, causing immense hardship to public.

Claming that their repeated pleas to the local bodies to stop this inhumane activity had failed to evoke favourable response, the association pleaded the district administration to issue stern direction to the local bodies not to indulge in such activities.

It had also called upon the district administration to help raise the height of Ramnagar South and 7th Cross streets by two to two-and-half feet in order to link them with Madipakkam-Kaiveli Road so that it would help residents access their houses easily when this area gets inundated during monsoon.

Further, pointing out that the entire area gets marooned and lies inundated for weeks together during monsoon, the association pleaded that flood drain channels be constructed in their area and linked with the main flood drain canal, constructed near Balaji Nagar.

Stating that their area was witnessing hype in real-estate activity in view of its proximity to Mass Rapid Transport System facility at Velachery and the already developed areas such as Nanganallur and Madipakkam on the outskirts of south Chennai, the association demanded an additional overhead tank facility to augment protected drinking water supply in the area.

Garbage Dumping in Madipakkam Ram Nagar

This article concerns the environmental health hazard faced by the people of Ram Nagar (South) Madipakkam, Chennai - 91.This area is within 2 Kms from the current chennai city limits and has been planned to include it as part of the chennai city expansion. There is no proposal solid waste disposal management system in place in Madipakkam and the garbage from the entire area is dumped into residential plots forcing people to flee from the area fearing health hazards. The garbage consists of Bio-medical waste, construction material and non-decomposible substances which harm the soil and also pollute the air. In spite of repeated complaints and representations, the authorities havent attended to this. Today the risk of a health hazard for the people in the area is even high as the authorities have started disposing the garbage even in front of houses where people stay and the people are forced to walk on those to reach their homes. Ram Nagar 6th Main Road

For the past 4 to 5 months the residents of the entire 6th Main Road in the Ram Nagar South Madipakkam are facing very serious problem without having panchayat water supply. Mostly all the houses are only dependent only on the lorry water. All the residents here spend around Rs. 2000 to Rs. 3000 per house for water alone. Almost all the apartments here have the panchayat water connection obtained after paying the requisite fees and charges but there is no supply of water in the sumps. In an apartment having 10 houses atleast 15 loads of lorry water is purchased for the entire month.

The 6th main road and other surrounding location has no street lights and good roads. Because of this during the rainy season and in normal times people find very difficult to commute due to fear of snakes and other creatures which are failed to be recognised in the absence of the street lights. Also rain water is getting accumulated in the pot holes of the roads and the entire stretch of the road is muddy during rainy season.

All the residents here in Madipakkam are throwing the garbage in the nearby open lands. After many days lots of toxic gases and mosquitoes emerge from the accumulated garbage posing health hazards and contaminated polluted air.

Madipakkam residents meet to air grievances

Pathetic condition of the Madipakkam Bus Terminus.

Stating that only the Chennai Corporation could help in putting a permanent end to the large scale problems faced by them, residents from a number of localities of Madipakkam met and shared their grievances and concerns over the deteriorating quality of basic amenities in their area. Residents and office-bearers of more than two dozen civic groups of Madipakkam Village Panchayat met recently at the Anna Dhaanam Hall of Ayyappan Temple in Ayyappa Nagar. According to speakers on the occasion, it was an advisory meeting of all the residents' associations of Madipakkam.

Speaking to Downtown, they said that the population had nearly touched 75,000 and the quality of basic amenities in Madipakkam had hit rock bottom. They said that without any doubt, Madipakkam ranked lowest among all urban and rural local bodies in the southern suburbs of Chennai in terms of basic infrastructure.

Charter of demands

The Madipakkam Village Panchayat was brought under the ambit of the Chennai Corporation by an announcement some months ago and this was welcomed by them, as the administration and its elected council had miserably failed to deliver the goods. The meeting was organised to prepare a charter of their demands to be presented to the Corporation.

Speakers included representatives of civic groups from Ayyappa Nagar, Mahalakshmi Nagar, Karthikeyapuram, Enfield Avenue, Ram Nagar, LIC Nagar, Raja Rajeswari Nagar, Rajalakshmi Nagar, Kubera Nagar, Balaiah Gardens, Anna Nagar, Rajaji Nagar and Alamelumangapuram among others. An important demand pertained to improving the Madipakkam Bus Teminus that was deteriorating due to neglect. Stagnation of rain water mixed with sewage around the terminus continued to be an eye sore and it remained like that for months together.

Other problems

Residents said that stagnation of water even long after the Monsoon had become a permanent problem. The indiscriminate dumping and burning of garbage in all possible open spaces and vacant spots, bad roads, pathetic condition of the Madipakkam bus terminus, ill-maintained street lighting and an unfriendly elected council and administration had robbed the tax payers.

They said that solid waste management had taken a complete beating in Madipakkam. It may be recalled that residents of Lakshmi Nagar-Alayamman Nagar launched a movement last year and decided to handle the task of primary collection of garbage.

The Madipakkam panchayat authorities said that poor financial strength was the most important reason for the present state of basic amenities. To deliver quality services, huge investments would be required which was not possible under the present circumstances.

Senior officials at the Department of Municipal Administration and Water Supply explained that the answer would be Madipakkam's merger with the Chennai Corporation and assured that one year from now, there would be a visible improvement.

Until a few decades ago, Madipakkam was among the locations in the southern suburbs of Chennai that were projected as ideal places for people to settle outside the city limits. All that has changed today with Madipakkam, its residents complain, being the perfect example of poor urban planning, little development and complete failure in providing and maintaining basic amenities.

“Madipakkam has nothing to boast of. Some of the worst facilities in this part of Chennai can be spotted here. Roads in bad shape, garbage dumped at almost every street corner, crumbling basic infrastructure, erratic water supply and absence of green spaces have made the quality of life poor to its residents,” said S. Harikrishnan, a resident of Sathsangam Street. He is also the joint secretary of the South Chennai unit of the Democratic Youth Federation of India.

Be it meetings with elected representatives or in public forums, residents seldom miss an opportunity to express their concern and criticise the state of affairs in the village panchayat.

Even during a public consultation held recently in Tambaram on the creation of the proposed South Chennai Corporation, residents wanted the State government to upgrade the local body as a municipality or at least a town panchayat at the earliest and merge it with the proposed civic body.

They said that with a population of over 40,000 and an annual income of about Rs.1 crore, Madipakkam ought to be upgraded from a village panchayat.

The place continuing as a rural local body, politicians and elected representatives have greater control in the day-to-day affairs and the government staff have little to contribute positively. Once it was upgraded as an urban local body, there would at least be increased monitoring from the State government machinery, residents said.

Residents pointed out to the heaps of garbage accumulated in street corners, including arterial roads such as Medavakkam Main Road and Madipakkam-Velachery Link Road and also near public places, bus stops and schools. The proliferation of commercial establishments and apartment complexes resulting in the manifold output of garbage had made it impossible for the panchayat staff to put in place effective measures to combat the menace. Hence, residents were left with no other option than organising workers by shelling out money from their pockets to keep their streets clean.

Unlike other pockets in the southern suburbs, Madipakkam’s problems on the sewage front are far more. Open sewers draining into lakes and smaller waterbodies and emptying into vacant spots caused severe problems to residents.

They said the Madipakkam village panchayat authorities’ biggest failure was evident from the poor state of roads. Some of the stretches are not motorable. Activists also pointed out that Madipakkam had only one middle school and that it was time to upgrade it as at least a high school. The local body also lacked parks, markets and playgrounds.

Measures to save Madipakkam Lake

An underground drainage system and a dedicated compost yard could be the only long lasting solutions to save the Madipakkam Lake, which is plagued by sewage water and litter for many years now, civic activists in the locality feel.If the sewage water is chocking the sprawling 62-acre water body, litter on the banks is marring its beauty, besides posing health hazards.While a section of the residents are dumping domestic garbage right on the lake’s bank, some use it for bathing and washing clothes. Even more badly, sewage is let into the water body through concealed pipelines at certain inlet points.The barbed wire fence put up many years ago as part of efforts to beautify the lake is of little use in halting the environment degrading practices.N L Sridhar, a resident of Sathsangam Street near the lake and convener of civic forum ‘Makkal Mandram’, said that storm water drains in certain localities were currently being abused as sewage drains.“Sewage from several residential localities, including parts of Sannadhi Street and Sabari Salai, is let into the lake besides waste water from storm water drains.” The only lasting solution to this menace could be the underground drainage system. Though the state government had already given approval for the scheme, it is yet to see the light of the day, Sridhar said.“All these years, we have been urging the local body to take steps to end this menace. We even took up the issue with top government officials, but nothing has happened. Drainage network can be the only solution,” he opined.As regards to garbage, several residents told City Express that they had ‘no other option’ but to dump garbage on the lake’s bank. The arrangement made by house owners for collection of garbage has not helped.“The garbage collector takes Rs 20 from each resident and disposes of the litter near the banks as there is no dedicated facility to dump it. The local body does not have a working system for collection and disposal of waste or for scientific incineration after category-wise segregation,” a Lake View Avenue resident said, requesting anonymity.V Rama Rao, treasurer of local Neer Exnora said the root of the issue could be traced to the absence of a dedicated compost yard. As a result, in most parts of Madipakkam, one could see litter on the streets and not just near the lake.“The local body does not have a dedicated site for proper disposal of the waste. Only if the much awaited integrated compost yard project at Venkatamangalam, near Vandalur comes up, this problem could be solved permanently,” he said. Although Madipakkam was not part of the proposed mega project originally, local bodies that did not have an exclusive yard were likely to be benefited, he added.Local officials were tight lipped about the whole issue and refused to speak when approached.

விசமாகும் மடிப்பாக்கம் ஏரி

மடிப்பாக்கம் ஏரி விஷமாக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. இந்த தண்ணீரை பருகும் மக்கள் பல்வேறு நோய்களுக்கு உள்ளாகி வருகின்றனர்.

சென்னை புறநகர் பகுதியான மடிப்பாக்கம் ஊராட்சிக்குட்பட்டது மடிப்பாக்கம் ஏரி. 64 ஏக்கர் பரப்பளவு கொண்ட இந்த ஏரி தற்போது 56ஏக்கராக உள்ளது. மீனம்பாக்கம், நங்கநல்லூர், மூவரசன்பேட்டை, பழைய பல்லாவரம், கீழ்க்கட்டளை போன்ற பகுதிகளில் இருந்து ஏரிக்கு நீர் வருகிறது. இங்கிருந்து வெளியேறும் நீர் பள்ளிக்கரணை ஏரிக்கு செல்கிறது. தென்மேற்கு பகுதியில் நீர்வெளியேறும் கால்வாய் அருகே கழிவுநீர் சுத்திகரிப்பு நிலையத்தை அமைக்க பல்லாவரம் நகராட்சி திட்டமிட்டது. இதனால் ஏரி மாசுபடும் என்று குடியிருப்போர் நலச்சங்கங்கள் தடுத்து நிறுத்தின. நீர் வெளியேறும் கால்வாய் 40 அடியிலிருந்து 10அடியாக சுருங்கி விட்டது. வடகிழக்கு பகுதியும் தனியார் ஆக்கிரமிப்பில் உள்ளது.

இந்த ஏரியில் 21 இடங்களில் ஆழ்துளை குழாய்கள் அமைக்கப்பட்டு 24 நீர் தேக்க தொட்டிகள் மூலமாக ஊராட்சி மக்களுக்கு குடிநீர் வழங்கப்படுகிறது. ஏரியை சுற்றி 1.41கோடி செலவில் 18அடி அகல சாலை அமைக்க மத்திய சுற்றுச்சூழல் அமைச்சகம் திட்டமிட்டது. பின்னர் அது கைவிடப்பட்டது.

ஏரி ஆக்கிரமிக்கப்படு வதையும், நீர் மாசுபடுவதை தடுக்கவும் 2008ம் ஆண்டு 12லட்சம் ரூபாய் செலவில் ஏரியை சுற்றி வேலி அமைக்கப்பட்டது. மேலும் பொது மக்களின் பயன்பாட்டிற்காக கரையோரம் பூங்காவுடன் கூடிய நடைபாதை அமைக்கப்படும் என்று அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது. தற்போது அந்த வேலிகள் முற்றிலுமாக சிதைந்து விட்டன.


மடிப்பாக்கம் ஏரிக்கு அருகே உள்ள சபரி சாலையில் உள்ள கழிவுநீர் கால்வாய் மழை நீர் கால்வாயாக கட்டப்படுகிறது. கழிவு நீர்கால்வாய் தனியாக இல்லாததால், அப்பகுதி மக்கள் மழை நீர் கால்வாயில் கழிவு நீரை விடுகின்றனர். மேலும் வேறுசில தெருக்களில் இருந்து வரும் கழிவு நீரும் இந்த மழைநீர் கால்வாயில் கலக்கிறது. மழைநீர் கால்வாய் என்ற பெயரில் கழிவு நீரை ஏரிக்குள் விட திட்டமிட்டனர். ஏரியை அப்பட்டமாக மாசுபடுத்தும் இந்த முயற்சியை அப்பகுதி குடியிருப்போர் நலச்சங்கங்கள் தடுத்து நிறுத்தி உள்ளன.

இதுதொடர்பாக ஏரிக்கு அருகே உள்ள மடிப்பாக்கம் ஊராட்சி 5வது வார்டு உறுப்பினர் அன்பழகன் கூறுகையில், பல்லாவரம் நகராட்சியில் மடிப்பாக்கம் ஏரியில் 10 ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக கழிவுநீரை விடுகின்றனர். இதனால் ஏரி விஷமாக மாறி வருகிறது. இந்த நீரை பருகும் மக்களுக்கு பல்வேறு நோய்கள் வருகின் றன. இதனை தடுக்க வேண் டிய தமிழக அரசு மெத்தனமாக உள்ளது. ஊராட்சியில் இருந்து கழிவுநீர் வெளியே செல்ல வழியில்லை. ஆகவே பாதாள சாக்கடை அமைப்பதன் மூலமே ஏரியில் கழிவு நீர் கலப்பதை தடுக்க முடியும். என்கிறார்.

ஏரி மாசுபடுவதை தடுக்க 25.03.2010 அன்று முதலமைச்சரின் தனிப்பிரிவில் மனுக் கொடுத்தும் பணிகள் தொடங்குவதற்கான எந்த அறிகுறியும் இல்லை. உடனடியாக பாதாள சாக்கடை திட்டத்தை தொடங்க வேண்டும் என்றும் சீதரன் கூறினார்.
